My name is Carolina Lorenzo López. I am a displaced survivor of a severe sexual assault that occurred in July 2009. Prior to the assault, I was an active athlete. Since then, I have lived with lasting impairments that require strict medication schedules, specific nutritional restrictions, and the use of mobility aids, including a cane and, at times, a wheelchair.
These disabilities have profoundly affected my independence, housing stability, and quality of life. Despite these challenges, I have continued to contribute professionally. However, professional resilience does not eliminate the need for basic safety, stability, and accessible living conditions. I live alone and am facing serious housing instability and safety challenges. As a disabled person living independently, reasonable safety, accessibility, and quiet enjoyment of my home are essential, and the current situation has significantly impacted my health.
Funds raised will help cover temporary relocation or housing transition costs, disability-related and accessibility expenses, and advocacy or legal assistance related to tenant rights and disability accommodations, if needed. This support would provide stability, reduce immediate risk, and allow me to focus on my health and safety. I am deeply grateful for any support during this vulnerable period.
Caveat: An archive of visual content captured during on-the-ground reporting in Venezuela is no longer publicly available. This material includes photographs documenting events, environments, and individuals. To ensure the safety and privacy of those depicted, the content is stored under strict access controls and is not shared publicly. The archive serves solely as a reference for verification, research, and advocacy purposes, with the protection of vulnerable individuals as the top priority.
